In Ontario, a Safety Standards Certificate is required when registering or selling a used vehicle, or when a vehicle has been declared unfit by MTO. If your vehicle is due for resale or has failed a previous inspection, book a pre-inspection check with us so we can identify and address issues beforehand — saving you a re-inspection fee.
It depends. A steady check engine light often means a non-urgent sensor issue, but a flashing check engine light signals an active misfire that can destroy your catalytic converter if ignored. If the light is flashing or you notice rough idle, reduced power, or unusual smells — pull over safely and get the vehicle towed. If it’s steady and the car drives normally, schedule a diagnostic soon but it’s generally drivable short-term.
For most modern vehicles using synthetic oil, every 7,500–10,000 km or once a year is appropriate. However, in Ontario’s stop-and-go urban driving conditions and cold winters, we typically recommend every 5,000–7,500 km for conventional oil and 8,000 km for synthetic. Short trips (under 15 minutes) are harder on oil than highway driving, so more frequent changes may be warranted for city commuters.
Our brake inspection covers pad thickness measurement, rotor condition and thickness, caliper operation, brake fluid condition and level, brake lines for wear or leaks, and ABS sensor function. We provide a written report with measurements so you understand exactly what’s needed — not vague “your brakes are worn” statements. There’s no charge for the inspection when you bring your vehicle in.
